The Forgiving Father by Jane Mitchell

Jane and I have had similar experiences with students (and teachers) who found the story of the "Prodigal Son" hard to understand.

For me it was a boy called Brad that I was teaching in 2002, who said to our parish priest, Fr Kevin Starkey, I"I just don't get it Father, how the son gets to go off and have fun and then the good son stays but the one that left gets a party. It's just not fair!"

Fr Kevin said, "Ah Brad, you see, it's not about the son, it's about the father". And with those simple words my perspective was changed.
