Sunflowers is a heartfelt song of solidarity and hope for the people of Ukraine at this time of conflict and trauma. In a matter of weeks over 2.7 million people have fled their homes in Ukraine, with civilian casualties everyday. And maddened by the injustice of it all. Amidst this darkness, my heart has been moved by the determination and spirit of the people of Ukraine: - A baker, in fact the Ukrainian masterchef champion, kneading dough until his hands no longer work, filling his van full of bread and delivering them to townspeople in need. - A woman fashion designer who, instead of fleeing, remained in Ukraine to make uniforms. - A mother of grown up children who has chosen to join the defence force to return the duty, as during the last conflict she was a young mother herself and was unable to defend her country. These stories, and the stories of countries offering refuge and aid are reminders of the best of our humanity. When we stand in solidarity with one another we have hope. ‘Sunflowers’ was composed as a reminder of this. As Tim has mentioned, today we made a donation to Caritas Australia's Ukraine appeal. The donation was an estimate of royalties we estimated would be returned from "Sunflowers" and "Rivers Of Your Peace". We urge you support this "Prayer in Action".
